Enpower our Youth and Get a Free Laptop

John Chow just IM’d me and told me about this great promotion for the Laptop per Child project, which if you don’t remember, was a project started by some people in MIT to provide children in developing countries with a way to join the rest of the technological world. Originally, the estimates were about $100 per laptop, but of course there were some costs of production increases and it’s now $200, which still isn’t a bad deal.
So, this is how it’s going to work - betweeen Nov. 12th and 26th, a donation of $399 will provide a XO Laptop to one child in a developing country and also one XO laptop to a child in your life (the holidays are coming up and this would be a great gift). Half of this donation is tax-deductible ($200 for the mathematically challenged) and to top it off, T-Mobile will throw in a Free Year of Wireless Service at any of their US-based Hotspot Locations (Official Press Release). Even though helping the children should be enough for me to donate, getting that free year of wireless service would be great, especially in West LA where working at a coffee shop definitely has it’s eye candy perks!
I’d like to thank John for passing me this information as I was just thinking of how we should use the power of our network to do something good for the world. This is a great step in the right direction and I hope we’ll all be able to participate in future programs.
I just ordered mine right now, so what are you waiting for? Go and Give a Laptop Today!

ok found t-mobile’s press release on this. http://www.t-mobile.com/company/PressReleases_Article.aspx?assetName=Prs_Prs_20071102&title=T-Mobile%20USA%20Partners%20with%20One%20Laptop%20per%20Child you may want to include that as the link to t-mobile.
This is a great promotion. I have one question, though. For Canadians like me, are we still eligible for the T-Mobile HotSpot service? I drive down to Washington state from time to time, so it’d certainly be handy.
i think they usually just give you a login and pw so you should be able to use it down in washington . . . . are you gonna order one?
Thanks D . . . i’ll put that up right now!
This is the right way donation collection must be promoted. Nice idea.
